Lessons learned from motion pictures.

Life lessons we would never learn if it weren't for movies:

  • If you are a girl who has never been asked on a date or hit on, all it takes is some contacts, a new hairstyle, and a new wardrobe and you will be the hottest new kid on the block.
  • The only time you will ever run out of gas, have engine trouble, or pop a tire is when you are in the middle of nowhere at night... never in a high speed car chase.
  • If you are ever faced with a group of 10+ men who want to kill you by way of martial arts, you will be able to defeat them all. Each man will wait patiently around you until you have knocked out his predecessor.
  • All foreigners speak English to each other, even when they are alone.
  • In the event of your pending death - as you are lying on the floor with a loaded gun pointed at your head - the assailant will explain his every reason for killing you, giving you ample time to make your escape.
  • If you start singing or dancing at any moment in time, anyone you bump into will know all the words and steps and will join right in.
  • If you run away from a killer, he will be able to keep his slow paced walk and still catch up to you.
  • Partnered police officers are always the exact opposite of each other.
  • Also, the partners usually hate each other. If they don't hate each other, one of them will die.
  • If you have face stubble, you have a dark, mysterious past.
  • Ancient Romans had English accents.
  • In a matter of seconds, your laptop can hack into any computer system undetected and with no problem, including major government organizations.
  • A detective can solve a case only if they are suspended from duty or ordered not to pursue said case.
  • If your dad has any kind of job, he will automatically forget about your 8th birthday.
  • You alone will able to kill 20 men with a gun, but 20 men - each with his own gun - wouldn't be able to touch you.
  • Your mom will make a big breakfast that no one in the family has time to eat. Every morning.
  • In the end, the loyal, pining best friend gets the girl. The misogynistic babe magnet always gets what's coming to him.
  • Time and distance are the only thing that makes the heart grow fonder.
  • When a slew of liscenced to kill government officials are after you, you will always outwit and out run them.
  • You will fall for the bad boy (you think you can change him), he will take a chance on you (because of that one quality that no other girl has), he lets you down with his bad boy demeanor (you couldn't change him the way you were expecting), you will break up with him (breaking first your heart; and later, his), he will change for the better (into the person you first wanted him to be because you "inspire him" to be a better person), and you two will live happily ever after (or at least until the credits).
  • It is easier to date the President's daughter than be tracked down by Secret Service.
  • Television news bulletins usually contain a story that affects you personally at that precise moment.
  • If you're in a major battle, the only important people will be fighting near each other, and only with each other. All others will weakly pretend to fight.
  • Radioactive matter will never give you cancer, only super powers.
  • Guns never need to be reloaded.
  • You must always investigate any noise you hear.

Potter the Prankster.

I chose the winner of the Smartt Designs contest! Congratulations Kelsi! :)

Sorry for the short post last night, but I was having so much fun that I didn't want to stop. After work, I had planned on just RedBoxing movies and watching them, but the plans changed. Leah and I had a roommate date at Panera, which is always lovely. Afterwards, we went to Gilbert Stevenson to play volleyball. At this point, it was already 8 something so the sun was setting pretty quickly. Leah, Chris, Mary, and I played on the sand court until it was absolutely too dark. We then joined the others on the tennis court. The boys were playing doubles so all four of us played even more volleyball on the court beside them. It was fun. We kept making up different rules of how we should play.

After a while, the whole group went to Sonic (our always retreat after playing at Gilbert). It was freezing, but fun. We talked for a while there.

Then Leah and I made a trip to Walmart for necessities, and hair dye. By the way, Harry Potter pulled a prank on me. Yesterday was Tuesday... the day new DvDs come out... so I went searching in complete and utter excitement for his new DvD. I hunted over and over and just couldn't find it. I was determined. I checked the movie app on my phone and found out that it comes out on the 15th... a Friday. A Friday! I don't like that. As a DvD connoisseur, I like for new releases to come out on their established day. Frustrating.

Anyway, we got the hair dye and came home to both dye her hair and watch Tangled. I love that movie! So cute!

Tonight is Dollar Wednesday... meaning a cheap dinner and a $1 movie at the cheap theater. I love Wednesday. We are going to Taco Bell (YUM!) and going to see Unknown.

I hope you all are having an awesome week! God is good.

Nightmare on Browndale Lane.

As you can see from my previous posts this weekend, I have reached the point in BEDA (Blog Every Day in April) where there is vastly less to talk about and everything turns to crap. I've been racking my brain for things to talk about and waiting for something interesting to happen. I suppose last night's nightmare will suffice. Is it normal to have a nightmare every week or two? I feel like that is an unusual number... but that is how often it happens to me. I don't like it.

Most of the time when I have a nightmare, I can tell it is a dream and I try to wake myself up, but last night I had no clue it was fake and that I was really asleep. I think that added to the scare factor.

The antagonist of this story happens to be a friend I've had for years, and although it was a dream and I know she would never do such a thing, I am going to change her name for the sake of the story. Let's call her Carrie... "scary Carrie". (Her two little horrible helpers were her mom and another friend, so we'll call them Mary and Sherry, respectively. I like that they rhyme. :P)

The protagonists are Ashley, Jacob, and myself. There are appearances of other people I know, I will name them when the time comes.

The setting is an old, delapidated building in the middle of no where (I know, right? Who would have guessed?). It was a place where we liked to hang out, I suppose.

It started out as a normal, sunny day -- Ash, Jake, and I were in our favorite room of the building. We, along with others who use the place, filled a few of the rooms with what furniture we could spare. In this room, we had a mattress, couch, and a TV/DVD player combo. Most of the doors in the building were heavy and hard to close, and the doorknobs hard to twist.

Someone stood in the doorway of our room and told us that we were needed outside. We turned left and walked down the hallway to the double glass doors that lead outside into the parking lot. As we walked out of the doors Carrie, with a gun in her right hand and a knife in her left, told us to follow her. She had glassy eyes and a voice not her own... she was demon possessed. We were flanked by her mother Mary and friend Sherry, who were also armed, but didn't seem to be possessed, just helping. We were forced to get into the Jeep in front of us.

Jacob was made to sit behind the steering wheel while Carrie pointed a gun to his head and demanded, "Drive." Luckily, I had my cell phone in my pocket, so I started to text Cody but all I could write was "HELP!" before Carrie noticed so I sent it as it was. My phone was quickly taken, and Carrie dropped her gun in the floor by my feet as she snatched it. I quickly calculated how fast I could grab it and turn on her, but she was quicker. She held the knife to my throat. "Don't. Move. One. Inch," she threatened.

Somehow, the car stalled and died shortly after we started driving. Frustrated, Carrie ordered that we be taken back inside and they would "just have to do it here." A gut-wrenching feeling in my stomach told me we were to be tortured... because of me. Because I am the only one Carrie knows. If it had just been Ash and Jake that day, they would be safe. Their forthcoming death was my fault, and I didn't even know why this was happening.

As we were being rushed back inside, and Carrie's helpers grabbing what they needed from their truck of torture, I turned and knocked Carrie to the ground and yelled, "RUN!" to my sister and her boyfriend. I quickly followed suit and slammed the door to our favorite room behind me.

We sat in the room, waiting for what was inevitably going to happen next but the hallway remained silent. They were either devising a plan or getting things ready. I decided to creep around the building and find out what was going on.

As I left the room, leaving Ash and Jake behind, I caught a glimpse of Cody, Noah, Austin and CJ. I ran over to them and told them exactly what happened, but they didn't believe me. They thought it was a joke. I had to prove it to them.

As I peered around the wall we were behind, Carrie and her loyal band of followers spotted me and broke out in a run in my direction. They cornered me back into that same room with Ash and Jake. Cody and they guys realized I was telling the truth and got out of there without a problem. After all, Carrie wanted me.

With Ash freaking out and Jake trying to console her, I not only locked the door but used myself as an extra force holding the door closed. As the pounding on the door began, the sun started to go down. Light was becoming scarce so we had to quickly form a plan. I resolved to trying to open the window that has been sealed up tight for years, but it was our only hope. The window led out to a very small square space. This space had three - about 8 foot tall - walls of concrete surrounding it. If we could get up and out of the space, we would be on the ground in a little grassy area between the buildings.

As I began to strain myself to get that window open, it was lifted away by someone on top of the wall. For a moment, it frightened me, thinking it was Carrie, but it turned out to be my Pawpaw. Ecstatic, he lifted me out of the hole. In the distance, I saw Myrna get out of his truck and motion for us to hurry. I told Pawpaw to go ahead and that I would get them out of the hole. As I pulled Ash and Jake up, Carrie and the girls heard all of the commotion and ran full force with weapons in hand at Pawpaw's truck. I yelled towards him to get himself and Myrna out of there and that we would be alright. He sped off to keep her safe.

Ash, Jake, and I hid nearby as the girls searched the grassy opening. They noticed where we escaped and were not going to back down any time soon, so we did what we had to do.

We came out of hiding, ready to fight without a weapon in hand. The crazed look in Carrie's eye chilled me to the bone. They attacked me all at once, beating me with the barrel of a shotgun and taking a staple gun to my skin. With Jake's help, we disoriented them for a moment, long enough for us to get to a door across the way.

We ran up a staircase that was nearby and took to the third floor. Quiet as mice, we tiptoed to an open room that overlooked the yard where we had just been. The girls were gone.

After a few moments, Mary and Sherry came back out dragging some kind of table with Carrie on top of it. With a nail gun in hand, Mary yelled, "Cassie! I know you're watching right now... and if you come out, I will let you do this to Carrie..." Then she laid Carrie's arm down and put three nails through three spots on her right arm. It was live bait. They wanted me out of hiding and thought this would do it.

It worked.

I stormed out of the building, leaving Ash and Jake in the dust. The shrieking laughter of all three of these evil beings sent chills down my spine, but I wasn't backing down.

With careful eyes and shaking hands, I crept towards what was sure to be a trick. Sherry now had the nail gun in her outstretched arm, pointing at me. I dodged her aim and reached to grab the nail gun and she sent a nail straight through my left hand right before I took control of it.

I turned it around and pointed it at Sherry, just as Ash and Jake caught up with me. Instantly Mary and Sherry coward back and leapt into a run. We ran after them a little ways before we turned to make our way back to Carrie.

When we reached that table, she was gone. We started towards the way out of the grassy area, but were blocked by a large steel gate.

Overwhelmed with the feeling of defeat, I sank down and started to cry, telling Ash and Jake, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.... I don't know how to get us out." I felt guilty for the life threatening position I had them in. I just couldn't win Carrie's game.

Minutes later, Carrie came running out of a nearby door with her eyes deadset on mine. It was like staring down Satan. She ran at me, with blood dripping from her arm and deep cuts all over her face. Jake tackled her to the ground and I held that nail gun to her head, my finger on the trigger.

"Do it!" he yelled.

Carrie looked up at me and in one brief moment, she was herself again. She was the girl I had been friends with for so many years. I couldn't bring myself to do it, I couldn't kill her.

I dropped the nail gun to the ground. Jake quickly picked it up and held it to her head. Before he had the chance to pull the trigger, we heard a continuous scream getting closer and closer... it was Sherry running towards us with a long, metal pipe raised above her head and screaming like a banshee...

I'm Unique Because...

HAHA. I just got a kick out of this essay I found that I wrote years and years ago. It's a real gem. :P Everyone in my class was offered extra credit to write an essay entitled "I'm Unique Because..." so I wrote one. What could it hurt, right? It was also a contest my teacher wanted us to enter. I ended up getting third place!...with this awfully written essay! I am frightened of what the losing essays were like... poor judges.

I hope this doesn't make you think less of me. ;)
Just remember, I was young...

Who am I? Different things define who people are, and who they will become. No two people are the exact same. Uniqueness is a very special gift because the world would be dull if everyone was the same.

One way that I am unique is that I am very close to my family. My relationship with my parents and siblings is unlike any other in that I tell them everything and we get along so well. Most parents and their children get into arguments, but that’s not the case with me and my parents. I never get angry with them. They understand me and I understand them. I also have friends that I consider my family. Very few people have really great friends that they can count on, and luckily, I am one of those few.

Another way I am unique is that I am very sporty, but girly at the same time. I’m not afraid to get down and dirty. I love to mud bog, play football, play softball, and do anything that is messy but fun. Although I love doing all of those things, I also love being a girl. I can go from playing sports all day to getting dressed up for a night out with the girls.

The things I like also make me very unique. I love country, pop, and rock music. I love the Tennessee Volunteers and I love going to Tennessee. I am from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and I go there at least twenty times a year to visit my family. One of my favorite things to do is get tons of blankets, lay them out on the ground, and lay there and just watch the stars. When I do this, I always see at least five shooting stars. My friends get so mad because they can never find them, but some how, I always do. Watching things is my specialty because I am a movie fanatic. If I could be anything, I would love to be a movie critic. I love how stories come to life, and how your wildest dreams could come true through movies.

My style is very unique too. I like to be cute and comfortable. Jewelry is a must have for me. I wear things that no one else wears because I like it. I don’t always care what people think about me, and that makes me very unique. I have blue eyes and brown hair, which is not too common where I live.

One thing that sets me apart from people is that I have to have everything perfect. My friends say that I have OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. All of my school projects have to be perfectly neat. I have to have an even amount of everything. If I don’t, I always find a way to make it even.

YewToobz

It's another quick post tonight because, well, it's a weekend night and I have somewhat of a life. I just came from Jacob's birthday dinner (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACQUES!). We had breakfast for dinner... YUM! ... and homemade strawberry ice cream... DELISH!

I want to throw a shout out to Adam and his ab dance moves... just a few more of those and you could look just like Shaun T! ;)

I was right to be excited about seeing Soul Surfer last night. It was such an amazing movie! I still can't get over how good it was... in every aspect. It is such an inspirational story... one that God very much had His hands in. I recommend that everyone see it. Ah, I love it!

For tonight's space filler, random YewToobz:
